Msnbc.com reports about phishing, identity theft and fraud in this ID theft victims face tough bank fights (feb. 18 ´04) article.

In general don´t give out your credit card number based on a mail that threatens to close your account. Also be very aware not to disclose your bank account via phone. The article describes one elderly woman who fell victim of a telemarketing scam last year.

The article has a checklist to help clean up after a identity theft.

One reason for me not getting the government sponsored digital signature here in Denmark. I simply do not trust it.

Check for spyware
Also if your receive a lot of spam. Check your pc for spyware. Spyware collects data on your pc about email adresses, surfing behavior, credit cards and transmits it to spammers or con (wo)men.
