In the States, it seems to me increasingly people are blanking out totally in the face of stress and complication. I find I have to walk salespeople and clericals through their work for them...doing my own insurance and legal claims. People seem not only increasingly careless, but illiterate. Not good omens.

okay, I don´t know what agegroup you are talking about. But an estimate of how many use ecstacy and other drugs here in Denmark among 20 - 25 year old says that numbers as high as 95% take different kind of drugs on weekends. Not just in major cities like Copenhagen. The drugs can be bought everywhere. Even in the smallest village.
Also I know of one case where a friend of mine lost her brother in law on a party in a major city perhaps due to drugs in his drink. They suspect somebody dropped the drugs in his drink and then staying in the vicinity to see the reation. Well, in this case it was fatal. He died of a heartattack at the age of 25. Wonder what the expenses on healthcare will be in the near future. It´s will be similar to the aids catastrophy in some parts of africa.
Maybe you have been serviced by weekend drug addicts?

The difference is that Drugs are self-inflicted - AIDs is not.
28 Nov 2002 @ 02:27 by fleer : I disagree
You can protect yourself from AIDS by using condoms.
While I was in Namibia the Danish UN contingent brought along some 5000 condoms. They were all spent, not only on the Danish contingent but also for the other contingents there.

I was talking about rape - the number of women who get AIDs after being raped. In consensual sex, you can protect youself, yes.
28 Nov 2002 @ 05:34 by spiritseek : Not
telling a sex partner you have a disease is rape of the body, mind and soul.Putting drugs into peoples drinks seems to me to be the same.
28 Nov 2002 @ 05:35 by ashanti : Yep
You're right, spiritseek.
28 Nov 2002 @ 06:47 by fleer : okay
Thank god for my extra insurance on my computer. Normally there was a 1 year warranty back in 2000 here in Denmark. But the extra insurance covers all waranty related issues. So instead of having to buy a new monitor or having to pay for it, I get it made without extra costs.
I agree with you yashmir and spiritseek. Both actions are also irresponsible and I kind of wonder why some would harm others in these ways. Maybe it could be the little moment of being in control. Of acting as god of life and death for a little while. We had a few cases in Dk, where a man infected numerous women with AIDS. In one case the first law passed to make it illegal didn´t apply anymore.
Because of the advances in helping cure the effects of AIDS, the law first set up in Denmark to prevent AIDS inflicted incidents didn´t apply anymore. At the beginning AIDS was a certain death sentence. The law had a 2 year death requirement if somebody should become liable to be accused and sentenced according to the law. The law in Sweden did not have that kind of technical finesse as I recall it.
So a few women of the women involved tricked the guy to Sweden and got him jailed.
