"For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ." -- John 1: 17

Yesterday I read a report about the actress, Sharon Stone's comment about the recent Chinese earthquake.

"I'm not happy about the way the Chinese are treating the Tibetans, because I don't think anyone should be unkind to anyone else," Stone, a prominent supporter of the Dalai Lama and Tibetan rights, told Hong Kong's Cable Entertainment News Thursday at an event during the Cannes Film Festival.

"And then this earthquake and all this stuff happened, and then I thought, is that karma? When you're not nice, that the bad things happen to you?" -- Great Wall Between China and Sharon Stone

I can understand where Sharon is coming from. She is only expressing the dominant paradigm of sowing and reaping. Be careful what you say, think, believe or do or you might end up reaping the results. The problem with this paradigm is that it doesn't allow for Grace. I believe Grace doesn't care about beliefs or past actions; Grace is constantly pouring out HER unconditional love on everyone and making all things new. All I have to do is receive.

Later as I was waiting at the bus stop, I watched an elderly woman getting off the bus. As she stepped off she fell. A man behind her reached out to assist her. He grabbed one arm and I grabbed the other and we lifted her up. She thanked both of us and walked away.

Once again when I am focused on the paradigm of "sowing and reaping" I'm likely to beat myself up about my beliefs. It must have been my negative thinking that made me fall. I don't deserve to be helped. I've made my bed so I have to lie in it. That's not how Grace works. I believe Grace inspired the man and I to lift the woman up, pure and simple.

And another thing, the elderly lady is white and the man and I are black, demonstrating that Grace is "no respecter of persons."

Just because I've made my bed doesn't mean I have to lie in it.
I am so grateful for Grace in every moment.

Love to all.

29 May 2008 @ 13:31 by jmarc : It was the poet
Hesiod who named the Graces in his Theogony:

"Then Eurynome, Ocean's fair daughter,
bore to Zeus the three Graces, all fair-cheeked,
Aglaia, Euphrosyne, and shapely Thalia;
their alluring eyes glance from under their brows,
and from their eyelids drips desire that unstrings the limbs."

Aglaia | personified beauty and/or radiance

Euphrosyne | personified joy

Thalia | personified blooming or flowering

Hesiod also states in this passage that the Graces were the daughters of the Olympian god Zeus and the Oceanid Eurynome.

These enchanting goddesses were often the companions of Aphrodite in mythology. And indeed, the Graces were the perfect entourage for the radiant goddess of love. The Charites were also frequently found in the company of the Muses and many of the other Olympian gods and goddesses.

This is so interesting. You never cease to amaze me with your info.

I like to see myself as a combination of all three Graces. :-)
