Abstract Thought

By Marissa A Spencer

Am I imprisoned by my limiting concepts of my world and myself? Where in the path of self-realization did my thoughts and feelings send me to odd paths and darkly lit alleys?  More >

Gather ye Nuts While ye May

By Marissa A Spencer

In the crisp autumn morning you can hear the soft crinkling of falling leaves and the occasional thud of ripened acorns. During my daily walk amongst the trees my path brought me before a harried squirrel.  More >

Precarious Perch

My morning walk was a bit brief today. I had not put on the proper shoes; nonetheless, I walked into the courtyard behind my work. The stream was still foaming here and there and bubbling appropriately. I stepped along the path over the bridge and to the tall oaks lining the walkway. I stopped abruptly, struck by the sight before me.  More >

 Foam in the Stream15 comments

I was sitting this morning again in the wooded courtyard. I had taken my walk. I was reading "Suffering is Optional by Cheri Huber". I was sipping my coffee when I saw this odd shape in the small stream.  More >

Web of Light

I arrived early to my workplace this morning. The sun was filtering through the trees behind the building. We have a man-made stream and large trees in a big courtyard there. As I sat on a bench, I could see the spider webs flashing in the sunlight.  More >

Where Does He Walk?

Where does this man walk, shadows before him?
Where are his thoughts, what goes afore him?
How will he choose the course that he follows,
Stuck in his own selfish maze he now wallows?  More >

The Parable of the Mimosa and Crabapple

by Marissa A Spencer

There was a beautiful crabapple tree that bloomed in a lovely meadow in a calm, peaceful valley. About ten feet away was a lovely mimosa tree. The mimosa’s feathery leaves opened and closed with each sunrise and sunset. The crabapple bloomed bright pink blossoms in the spring. Mimosa’s blossoms were like pink fairies.  More >

Odd Happenings at Coloma

By Marissa A Spencer

One year our family went to the Coloma mill, where Marshall’s men found gold in California. It is lovely in the foothills and we often took a picnic with us and panned for gold in the cold shallow river there. The area is covered with preserved buildings. The blacksmith shop will have someone demonstrating the art from time to time.  More >

I saw it when I woke from a meditation..

I had my eyes open and the sight of it lingered for a few moments..

I have a pastel of it.. I will scan it when I can. This will have to do to let you know... six spheres... connected

when I looked at it , it was sitting on the horizontal...

I opened my eyes and it glowed in the darkness...  More >

Time Stops

Will time ascend?
Or retreat if we sit quietly?
I sense a change
I watch the hours creep
Then they fly by with no sense.
When I close my eyes

Mary and Jane, are you my friends? Smithsonian part 5

A year went by and life was pretty crazy. Thoughts of odd experiences were not at the top of the list of things to do. Then one quiet evening when I was relaxing, I sensed the thought in my head. It wasn’t a real voice, but a thought formed into words.  More >

Going Into the Past

by Marissa A Spencer

I could have stayed in the Natural History Museum for a whole day, but there was still so much to see. In between the buildings there are outdoor exhibits. I was fortunate to go when the weather was perfect. With a smile on my face I continued to the next major building. The Museum of American History was no disappointment. I already mentioned my Grandfather’s shop. The Industrial Revolution had its good and bad side. Marvelous marvels of the modern era were all well represented.  More >

Wandering around the collection of museums called the Smithsonian is a treat. I left the art museum and wistfully wondered what Mary Cassatt was trying to tell me. My next destination was the Natural History Museum. Touted as pretty impressive, I am happy to agree. The front of the building alone is massive.  More >

Smithsonian: Part 2

By Marissa A Spencer

In the late summer of 1999, the cherry blossoms of Washington, D.C. were done falling. I put my backpack on and grabbed a cab to go to the Smithsonian. I had dreamed for years of visiting it. I had no preconceived notions and was open to anything I could learn. Had I been guided to this place at this time? One could argue that, when you think about the events that transpired.  More >

I have to look at this sort of thing with an accepting eye, but sometimes...it is very distracting!

The blasting furnace blinds me  More >
