Our Feet in the Mist

Poised I see you there, a far flung star,
Out of reach, but burning hotly.
A solitary fire fed by my thoughts.
And you knowing the beacon sent.

The signal stirs thy fitful sleep,
Yet retreats with the coming dawn.
Daily tasks cloud the moments.
‘Til the coals of desire encroach.

Be not fretful upon the voyage,
I’ll not tumult thy fervent hopes.
Yet be warned the cord is strong,
Despite distraction’s clouding peace.

Like a calliope turning into sighs,
And mirrors of a carnival warped,
I see you beyond the shimmering glass,
As beckoning reflections entice and amuse.

Confused, the maze of mirrors mock us,
We cannot see our feet in the mist.
The only reality is the silver chain,
Binding our souls in the distance.
