THE FOREST GREEN: Things Undone

Things Undone

Endless stones on a grassy hill
Watching the flowers nod and sway
In spite of the sun I felt a chill
As I counted each rose and daffodil
Their brightness filled the silent day

Her words grew inside my mind
“Bring me flowers while I am living.”
Don’t wait for death or you will find
Time has passed and you’ve been blind
Too late now for any giving

I sat in the shade of an ancient tree
Pondering thoughts of those I knew
Knowing each thought we have is free
We now decide who we want to be
When we choose what we say and do

I should have changed so long ago
Going my thoughtless, merry way
Being young, how was I to know?
That my regrets o’er time would grow
From things undone from yesterday
