what century were they the most prominent?

In general, to the best of my knowledge,
that would have been during the second half of the first millenium CE,
and into the first two or three centuries of the second millenium.
All of course referring to the historical record. I am curious as to seafaring activities of both Mediterranean and Baltic peoples prior to the historical record. I am curious about voyages that would have taken those people across the Atlantic and even around the world.
Voyages that would have occured ten thousand or so years ago.
